Manikarnika Box Office Report
Our box office prediction was spot-on!Manikarnika Box Office Collection | Full Details
Manikarnika had a decent-good start at the box office on its opening day, considering that the film lacked a 'big star'. The film collected around ~8 crores on its first day at the box office, just as we predicted. We had predicted Manikarnika to collect around 6.5-9 crores. Manikarnika opened to uninspiring advance bookings, and the morning shows had a dull response from the audience. Several of the morning shows had to be cancelled in Tier 2 cities due to insufficient audience turnout. The film gradually picked up from the evening shows, and the film ended the day with better footfalls in the night shows. The film should have done better, because of its big production values, and the number of screens it got, and no big competition this week at the box office (Thackeray is quite limited to Maharashtra).
Multiplexes did better business on Day 1 than the single screens. Manikarnika's business was affected by the release of Thackeray in Maharashtra, as the film took away significant number of screens from Manikarnika, and also performed better than Manikarnika in Maharashtra (Hindi+Marathi)!
The film also faced competition from Uri The Surgical Strike which is in its third week, and has retained good number of screens, close to 800.
Manikarnika is Kangana Ranaut's biggest opener at the box office as a solo lead, as the collections have surpassed Rajjo, Queen, Revolver Rani and Simran. The film should show good growth on Saturday, which is a Republic Day holiday, and also on Sunday, to have a chance at recovering its investment. Otherwise, the film can be be another box office failure for Kangana Ranaut.
The film opened to mixed-to-positive reviews from the critics. The initial audience word-of-mouth are mixed, and are quite polarized.
The film features Kangana Ranaut as Rani Laxmibai, and is also directed by her.
Day 2 Update: The Republic Day holiday came as a huge blessing for Manikarnika, as it collected almost 2.5 times its opening day collection, on Day 2 at the box office! This gives a firm boost to the film's box office fortunes. The movie showed an astounding 130% growth on its second day by collecting ~17.5 crores at the box office (including the dubbed Tamil and Telugu version).
Day 3 Update: Manikarnika did good business on Sunday at the box office, as it collected around ~15 crores on its third day. The film took a slight drop in its collections compared to Saturday, as night shows on Sunday witnessed less footfalls compared to Saturday. Manikarnika's first weekend collections stand at around ~40 crores.
