After a series of accurate opening day box office collection predictions of films Manikarnika, Thackeray, ELKDTAL and Gully Boy, we are back with another box office prediction analysis: prediction of this Friday release, Luka Chuppi.
Luka Chuppi, featuring Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles, is releasing this Friday at the box office. The film is releasing along with the bandit action drama film, 'Sonchiriya'. But, 'Sonchiriya' largely poses no threat to Luka Chuppi because of its contrasting genre. Sonchiriya is a serious action drama, and Luka Chuppi is a light hearted youth comedy drama. Sonchiriya targets a narrow spectrum of the audience, while Luka Chuppi on the other hand, targets primarily the youth who form the major chunk of the movie-going audience. And, also the actors of Luka Chuppi are known for their youth-oriented films, and are quite popular among the young audience. So, Luka Chuppi clearly has a significant advantage over Sonchiriya, and its first day box office collections will be more than Sonchiriya's, by a big margin.

But, Luka Chuppi is not a pure youth film, like Kartik Aaryan's Pyar Ka Punchnama (Part 1&2) and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. Luka Chuppi, because of its setting and theme, broadens its target audience, and slightly extends towards the family audience spectrum, and hence may also attract the family movie-goers in the weekends, along with the youth. But, because the film is not the typical 'boyfriend-girlfriend rants' film like PKPs and SKTKS, it may alienate the teenage audience, also because this film appears to be slightly grown-up youth-comedy than PKPs and SKTKS, which were total juvenile stuff.
PKP and SKTKS were pure multiplex films. Even Luka Chuppi is largely a multiplex film, but the single screens may contribute slightly more this time. But, that will still be little tough, because the last week's release, 'Total Dhamaal', is doing good at the single screens. Total Dhamaal which is primarily aimed towards the kids, teens, youth and family audience, will have significant audience overlap with Luka Chuppi. Total Dhamaal, which is going well at both the single screens and the multiplexes will be Luka Chuppi's competitor this week at the box office, than Sonchiriya.
The trailer looks good, and gives the feeling of a pretty well-made film. The director of the film, Laxman Utekar, is debuting with this film as a director.
Both the lead actors, Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon, are coming after successful films at the box office, and are well-known faces to the young people, who are the core audience of this film. And, Luka Chuppi has a good pre-release buzz and interest which will help in posting a good first day total at the box office. The songs have been quite popular too.
The film will definitely open to a good response at the box office. And, if it turns out to be good, and gets good audience word-of-mouth, it will be another success at the box office for the lead pair.
Our data analysis tells us, that the film is showing a big surge in interest. While our gut feeling tells us that the film might collect around 5-6 crore mark, our data suggests that the first day opening to be around 12 crore mark! But, we have kept our first day prediction range to 9.5-10.5 crores mark.
Sonchiriya might collect around ~9.5 - 10.5 crores on its first day at the box office.
