Multi-starrer comedy film, 'Total Dhamaal', took a good opening this week at the box office. Total Dhamaal collected around an estimated ~16.5 crores on its first day. The film got a solo release this week, and has made the most of it. Total Dhamaal had major competition at the box office only in form of the last week's release 'Gully Boy', and only in the Tier-1 cities.
Total Dhamaal has got an equally good response at both the multiplexes and the single screens. Going by the promotions and the advertising of the film, Total Dhamaal was primarily aimed towards the mass audience and the kids, and the film has been well-received by both the mass and the family audiences. The fact, that the film is clean comedy entertainer devoid of vulgarity, skin show and double entendres seems to have worked well with the family movie-goers. The presence of stars has also boosted its box office fortunes.
The film had a very average first day advance booking, which was below Gully Boy. as the trailer was not particularly impressive. And obviously the first day collections are below Gully Boy. But, the fact is, Gully Boy released on the occasion of Valentine's Day, which had significantly increased the footfalls at the box office, and there was no such special occasion when Total Dhamaal released.

But, despite the average bookings for the first day, below average occupancy in the morning shows, and outright negative response from the critics, the film amazingly picked-up from the evening shows and posted a healthy box office total at the end of its first day. Shows the power of positive audience word-of-mouth publicity.
Second day advance bookings saw an upward swing as a result of the positive word-of-mouth, and the box office collections also saw a good growth growth of 23.63%. The film collected around ~20.4 cr. on Saturday. And, Sunday's collections are even better, as the film showed a growth of 54.54% from Friday's collections, and collected around ~25.5 crores. Total Dhamaal ended its first weekend at the box office by collecting a huge ~62.4 crores.
Despite the huge first weekend, Total Dhamaal held well on Monday, and posted an impressive ~9.5 cr. at the domestic box office. The impressive first weekend and a good first Monday at the box office, shows that the film has worked well, and has managed to satisfy its target audience. And, if the film continues its good run at the box office in the upcoming days, it will undoubtedly emerge as a HIT at the box office.
Total Dhamaal opened to overwhelmingly negative reviews from the critics. However, the audience word-of-mouth reports suggest it to be on the positive side.
Total Dhamaal is apparently unharmed by the critics negative reviews, as the audience response has been largely on the positive side, which is reflected by the huge box office numbers. Total Dhamaal is one of such films which gets panned by critics, and goes on to accumulate huge figures at the box office.
Total Dhamaal is the third film in the 'Dhamaal film franchise', and is directed by Indra Kumar, who also directed the previous two Dhamaal films, namely 'Dhamaal' and 'Double Dhamaal'. The film features Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and Riteish Deshmukh in the lead roles.
