Luka Chuppi took a good opening at the box office by collecting around ~8 crores. The film released along with 'Sonchiriya' this Friday, but the simultaneous release had no effect on Luka Chuppi, as Sonchiriya performed poorly on its first day. Even if Sonchiriya had performed better, it still would have had no effect on Luka Chuppi, because of their respective poles apart genres. And, Luka Chuppi always had the upper hand at the box office for being a youth cinema, and also for having a good pre-release buzz & interest. And, because of that, it even got released in three times the number of screens than Sonchiriya. Luka Chuppi was released in around 2200 screens, while Sonchiriya could only manage 700 screens, on Day1.

Luka Chuppi had a decent start to its first day at the box office, as morning shows saw quite a healthy overall occupancy rate of around ~20%. The film then gradually picked-up, and night shows had an overall occupancy rate of around ~60%. Bangalore and Hyderabad cities particularly performed well, followed by Pune, NCR and Mumbai.
As expected, the film performed well at the multiplexes, and single screens played the second fiddle by contributing only to a fraction of its total first day collections. As we told yesterday in our prediction article, it was Total Dhamaal which competed with Luka Chuppi rather than Sonchiriya. Total Dhamaal was strong at the single screens, and almost didn't concede anything to Luka Chuppi. Whatever the dent seen in the screens and collections of Total Dhamaal was at the multiplexes.
Luka Chuppi had decent advance bookings for the first day, with Hyderabad leading at 30% bookings at the time of our report. The overall advance bookings for Day1 was around 14% (at the time of our report, 28 FEB 9:10 PM IST). The advance bookings for second day have shown a good increase, and are at 19% at the time of our estimations (1 Mar, 9:10 PM IST). Even for the second day, Hyderabad still leads with 39% seats booked.

The lead actors' popularity among the youth has also helped the film in taking a good opening at the box office. If the film shows good growth in the weekend, it can carry that momentum forward to Monday which is a holiday (Mahashivratri). And, if the film manages to impress the audience, it can have a good long run at the box office without any significant competition till March 21, when Akshay Kumar starrer 'Kesari' releases. Because, in the next two weeks, only two niche films are releasing, namely Badla (8 march) and Photograph (15 march). So, the path is clear for Luka Chuppi, and it only has to perform well. Tomorrow's collection will make the picture clear about the box office fate of the film.
Luka Chuppi opened to mixed reviews from the critics, and the overall consensus is that the film is average. The audience word-of-mouth, however, appears to be leaning on the positive side, going by the initial reports.
Luka Chuppi is directed by debutant director, Laxman Utekar. The film features Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles.
