Sonchiriya got a poor response at the box office on its first day. The film collected just around ~1.15 crores, which is way below than what we had expected. The film failed to get reasonable number of cinemas and shows, as most cinemas preferred the other box office release 'Luka Chuppi', and even 'Total Dhamaal' over Sonchiriya, citing lack of audience interest. It was a hard bargain for the film at the box office. The production house tried to push the film as much as it can to a good position, but did not succeed completely.

Sonchiriya failed to echo with the regular movie-goers, as the film targeted a very narrow spectrum of audience. The niche genre of the film, along with the absence of star actors, has resulted in a very low first day box office opening, which was always going to be the case with Sonchiriya. But, 1.15 cr is even below the low expectations. The morning shows had an overall occupancy rate of around 5%, and several of its morning shows had to be cancelled due to less than required audience turnout. The film did see some growth in footfalls in the evening and the night shows, but nothing to boast about.
The film opened to largely positive reviews from the critics, but the audience word-of-mouth seems to be mixed, going by the initial reports.
Sonchiriya should see extraordinary growth in the next two days, or else the film is going to be a washout at the box office. And, going by the initial response on Day2 (Saturday), Sonchiriya is on its way to become a FLOP at the domestic box office.
Sonchiriya is directed by Abhishek Chaubey. The film features Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar and Manoj Bajpayee in the lead roles.
Day 2 Update: Sonchiriya failed to show any significant growth on Saturday, and going by the initial reports for Sunday, the dismal performance at the box office may continue. The film collected a scanty ~1.25 cr. on its second day at the box office.
Day 3 Update: Sonchiriya saw a meagre growth in its collection at the box office on Sunday, but not enough to wake it up from its deep slumber. The film collected around ~1.75 cr. on Sunday, which takes the first weekend total to a disappointing ~4.15 crores. Sonchiriya is a box office disaster.
