But the execution of this Bollywood thriller with Hollywood ambitions is far from clinical. In fact, on many occasions 'Blank' becomes a little too daft in the attempt to being clever.

The screenplay keeps digressions to the bare minimum, but its attempts to build tension and sustain suspense do not yield much dividend because Blank is low on surprises.

The trick to making us swallow improbable ploys is slick treatment, and keeping everything moving chop-chop. On both counts, the film largely draws a blank.

Weighing in at just over a 100 minutes, this should have been a tight film but merely enforces the illusion of economical filmmaking.

Here too Blank isn’t merely an adjective, it’s an entire sensibility. Which, as you can imagine, makes for a pretty dull movie.

There is just about enough material here for a conventional yarn about Islamist terrorists with nefarious plans for India. The rest is the equivalent of firing blanks.

Karan is as subdued as he is deadpan. Staggeringly so. No matter how hard he cries, screams or defends, it only draws a blank.

The film’s title possibly refers to the protagonist’s compromised mental state. Having endured this one, it’s a debilitating condition that you will share with him.

BLANK is well directed and performed and is based on the relatable events of terrorism. Sunny Deol's fans will love him in an action packed role after a long time.
