Rustum Box Office Report
Rustum Kannada Movie; HIT or FLOP?'Rustum', starring actor Shiva Rajkumar in the lead role as a Police officer, got off to a decent start at the Kannada box office. Rustum collected around an estimated ~90 lakhs on its first day at the box office. The first day and the subsequent days' collections are pretty underwhelming, considering that the film belongs to the action genre targeting the mass audience, and has a big name as its lead. The filmmakers would've wanted the film's first day collections to be at least around the ~1.50 crore mark, considering the sizeable budget and substantial amount spent for marketing and advertising. And, Rustum's trailer was also showcased during the intervals in multiplexes across Karnataka for at least two weeks before the release. But, the film didn't live up to the expectations and the collections can be termed only as decent or as strictly average, if not less.
The collections of 'Rustum', so far, are less than 'I Love You Nanne Preethse', even after having more number of screens and shows than 'I Love You'. 'I Love You' had collected around ~1.45 cr. on Day 1 with 207 shows in Bangalore. And, 'Rustum' has collected around ~0.90 cr. on Day 1 with 252 shows in Bangalore. Even the first day advance bookings for 'Rustum' were less than 'I Love You'. But, the collections are far better than Shiva Rajkumar's last release, 'Kavacha'.'Kavacha', which was almost a pure multiplex film, had collected around ~35 lakhs on Day 1, and ~1.61 crores in its first weekend. Hindi film, 'Article 15', which released on the same day as 'Rustum', collected around ~30 lakhs on Day 1 in Bangalore with 169 shows.

Rustum took a dip in its collections on Day 2 (Saturday), but recovered on Day 3 (Sunday) to post a first weekend box office total of around ~2.32 crores, of which around ~1.79 crores came from Bangalore alone; which is the case for all the Kannada films, because of the comparatively huge numbers of screens in Bangalore. Rustum has taken a big drop in collections post-Sunday, and it needs to be seen if the film can sustain past its first week.

Rustum opened to mixed-to-negative reviews from the critics, with most calling the film as a rotten re-hash. The audience word-of-mouth is mixed, going by our audience response samples collected at the multiplexes over the first weekend.
