'Mission Mangal' took an excellent start at the box office despite being in a clash with another simultaneous Bollywood release, 'Batla House'. 'Mission Mangal' started the day on a good note as morning shows had an overall occupancy of around ~50-55%. The occupancy for afternoon and evening shows was around ~75% and ~85% respectively. The night shows recorded a similar occupancy to that of evening shows, only slightly better. The film had a clear advantage over 'Batla House' specially at the multiplexes where it recorded collections of almost 3-times to that of 'Batla House'. 'Batla House' bridged the gap at the single screens, but even there 'Mission Mangal' was clearly the better performer. The overall occupancy for 'Mission Mangal' for Day 1 is around ~70-75%.
'Mission Mangal' was riding on back of an excellent advance booking, one of the best of 2019. The film collected around an estimated ~27-28 crores (early estimate) on its opening day at the box office, which is exactly what we predicted yesterday in our Day 1 Advance Booking Report. With this collection, 'Mission Mangal' is the second biggest opening Hindi film of 2019, only behind 'Bharat' which is the highest opening Bollywood film of 2019. 'Mission Mangal' is also the career-best opener for Akshay Kumar at the box office. The Independence Day holiday and the patriotic flavour of the film has obviously worked in its favour. And, tomorrow will be the true test for the film at the box office as it is a normal working day, and tomorrow's trends will also pretty much indicate the audience word-of-mouth at large. If 'Mission Mangal' can maintain-well tomorrow, it can score big on Saturday and Sunday. Our '2nd Day Advance Booking Report' for 'Mission Mangal is out, and the figures for Day 2 are around ~60-65% less compared to Day 1.

'Mission Mangal' released in around ~3100 screens at the box office, while 'Batla House' released in around ~2000 screens across India. 'Mission Mangal' opened to mixed reviews from the critics, and the initial audience word-of-mouth is also mixed, based on our audience response samples collected on Day 1.
