Marjaavaan Box Office Prediction
Marjaavaan: HIT or FLOP?Marjaavaan Day 1 Collection Prediction | Analysis
'Marjaavaan' is Bollywood's mass masala action film featuring actors Riteish Deshmukh, Siddharth Malhotra, Tara Sutaria and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles. The film is directed by Milap Zaveri, who previously directed the successful commercial entertainer 'Satyameva Jayate' starring John Abraham. In this post, we'll try to analyse the box office prospects of 'Marjaavaan' and predict the opening day collection of the film.

After multiple changes and flip-flops in its release date, 'Marjaavaan' is finally getting released at the box office on Friday 15th November. There is another film named 'Motichoor Chaknachoor' which is also releasing on the same day, featuring actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead role. But, the film will pretty much be a smaller affair at the box office, and will not be competing with 'Marjaavaan'. Even the holdover film, 'Bala', which was released just a week earlier to 'Marjaavaan's release date, won't be much of a competition to 'Marjaavaan' because of its contrasting genre and quite different target audience. 'Bala' might slightly affect 'Marjaavaan's show count at the multiplexes because of its current very good box office performance, but overall, both the films mostly will not affect each other's business at the box office, and even if they do, it will be quite minimal. So, 'Marjaavaan's first day business will almost be completely dictated by the film's own pre-release interest, buzz and hype. The lead actors of 'Marjaavaan' will mostly only help the film get noticed by the movie-going audience, and all the heavy work of getting them into the cinemas rests upon the film itself. Honestly, and because this is a masala film targeting the mass audience, Nora Fatehi's dance number might pull more audience to the cinemas than all the other lead actors combined!
The first trailer of the film was released on Sep 26th, and it has the looks of a complete mass masala film. The southern flavour is very much evident in the trailer, be it the costumes, the fights, the sets or even the background music. It makes the film seem like a khichdi of southern inspirations. The trailer, honestly, is very divisive. Either you'll totally like it or just hate it completely. But both the ways, it has definitely managed to create a buzz for the film. And, two weeks before the film's release, the makers released another trailer of 'Marjaavaan'. The second trailer, in our opinion, is actually better than the first one, as it makes the film seem a better all-rounded product than what the first trailer made us to believe. The second trailer is more subdued and proportionate with far less over-the-top action scenes, and is comparatively more intriguing. Both the trailers along with the pretty popular songs are heating things up for 'Marjaavaan' at the box office.

It is obvious from the trailers that the film is a mass masala entertainner, and there may not be many takers for the film at the multiplexes, specially in the Metros and the Tier-1s. It will be the mass centres that will mainly propel the film's business at the box office. But, both the male leads don't have enough box office pull to bring the masses to the cinemas solely based on their stardom. Sidharth has 5 flops in a row, namely 'Baar Baar Dekho, 'A Gentleman', 'Ittefaq', 'Aiyaary' and 'Jabariya Jodi'. Sidharth Malhotra's last HIT film was 'Kapoor & Sons' which was a multi-starrer and was a pure multiplex film. Similarly, Riteish Deshmukh is coming after back-to-back flops/disasters, and the only successful films that Riteish was part of were multi-starrer films with bigger stars like the Housefull series and Dhamaal series. But, Siddharth Malhotra and Riteish Deshmukh together had a Super Hit film called 'Ek Villain', which was way back in 2014. Since, both the actors are coming after a series of box office flops/disasters, the opening day collections will mostly depend upon the audiences' interest in the film and the pre-release buzz which are created and shaped by the publicity material like the posters, promos, songs. Remember, 'Ek Villain' had blockbuster music; all the film's songs were hugely popular and were chart-busters before the release of the film, which gave a huge boost to the film's pre-release interest and buzz. 'Ek Villain' collected an amazing ~16.50 crores on its opening day, which is still the best box office opening for both the actors!
Marjaavaan was originally scheduled to release on Oct 2nd, going in a clash with the big-budget big-star action film, 'War', starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff. But, 'Marjaavaan' was postponed to a later date, and wisely so. As, October 2nd was already crowded with both biggies 'War' and 'Sye Raa' releasing together, and even the Hollywood film 'Joker' releasing on the same day. And, even if it was only 'War' on Oct 2nd and no 'Sye Raa' and 'Joker'; the results would've been disastrous for 'Marjaavaan' had it gone into a clash with 'War'. You simply don't go ahead and clash with an event film, specially when both your lead actors are going through a disastrous patch at the box office.

On the whole, 'Marjaavaan's first day collection mostly won't be huge, and it might take an opening of around 4-6 crores (Changed from 5-7 to 7-8 to 4-6). Obviously, if the film manages to impress its core audience, then the good word-of-mouth will sail the film through.
