Advance Booking Recorded as on 19 Dec 2019, 09:35 PM IST: 'Dabangg 3' advance ticket booking has seen a good increase compared to yesterday, despite the current not-so-favorable situation in the country, with reports of violence, curfews and section 144s. The final advance booking for first day is not to the level that we anticipated before, after seeing the early surge in bookings in our initial updates. But, the current figures are good enough for the film to take a good opening of around 25-27 crores. The first day is a non-holiday and the Christmas holiday actually falls on Wednesday. This is our final update on the 1st day's bookings. We will post the 2nd Day advance booking report in a new post at around 10:00 PM tomorrow. Advance Booking Recorded as on 18 Dec 2019, 09:35 PM IST: 'Dabangg 3' advance ticket booking has opened at most of the places now, but still a notable number of shows are yet to be added for ticket booking. A large number of new shows have been added today, therefore the overall occupancy at a few places like Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Patna, Chandigarh have slightly gone down; as new shows with 0% occupancy bring down the overall average occupancy. But, despite the addition of new shows, most of the places have witnessed a good increase in their occupancy compared to yesterday. If we look at the advance booking figures, it is noticeable that the 'mass' areas are doing better than the Tier-1s and Metros. There is still a day to go for the release, and this is where most of the pre-bookings take place. The advance occupancy is bound to increase by a good measure tomorrow. The screens/shows allocation is still going-on, and the advance booking is yet to open in a considerable number of screens. There is still more than 2 days to go for the film's release, and the advance booking really picks-up in the last two days. The occupancy is already pretty good, and 'Dabangg 3' is sure to increase it significantly in the last two days. Advance Booking Recorded as on 16 Dec 2019, 10:00 PM IST: 'Dabangg 3' advance ticket booking has witnessed a notable rise compared to yesterday's updates. Both the number of shows and occupancy have increased considerably. Usually as the new shows with 0% occupancy get added, the overall occupancy decreases, but here, even the overall occupancy has shown an upward trend along with the increasing number of shows, which indicates that the ticket booking is witnessing a big upward swing as the release date is approaching. The advance bookings are open only in around 1/4th of the final number of shows. And, still a big chunk of advance bookings are yet to open at a lot of screens. But, one thing is for sure is that 'Dabangg 3' is setting itself up for a huge pre-release advance ticket sales. Advance Booking Recorded as on 15 Dec 2019, 10:00 PM IST: 'Dabangg 3' advance ticket booking has started at most of the places now including the Tier-2 cities and towns, which were yet to open in the yesterday's update. A significant number of advance bookings have started at many cinemas across India, but the advance booking that is now open is still less than 1/4th. The surge in the bookings is quite noticeable from yesterday, and the overall booking picture will be more clearer in tomorrow's update as to where the overall first day advance booking is headed. But if we look at the current figures, the advance ticket bookings have been good and 'Dabangg 3' is clearly on its way to become one of the highest pre-release collectors. Advance Booking Recorded as on 14 Dec 2019, 10:00 PM IST: 'Dabangg 3' advance ticket booking has started only at the Metros and the Tier-1 cities and few other places and that too only at a handful of cinemas. As on 13 Dec, 05:30 PM IST: The advance ticket booking for one of the most anticipated films of the year, 'Dabangg 3', has started in Bangalore and Hyderabad. The advance booking has begun only at a handful number of cinema halls, and all of them currently are single screen cinemas. The larger full-fledged advance booking is yet to begin. What Do These Numbers Mean?
Wondering what these advance booking figures mean? Here's how to read it.
Theatres - Number of properties/cinemas. They are NOT number of screens. Both multiplex cinemas and single screen cinemas are counted as one property/cinema.
Shows - Total number of shows from all the properties.
Seats Booked - Percentage seats booked per show. Or in other words, average per show occupancy expressed in percentage. For example, let's assume that there are 4 shows and each show has a seating capacity of 100. And, Show One - 25 seats booked, Show Two - 10 seats booked, Show Three - 30 seats booked and Show Four - 5 seats booked. So, the average percentage occupancy(seats booked) per show is 17.5%. Even though the number of tickets sold is directly proportional to occupancy, there are other factors/variables that influence the occupancy%. As the seating capacity per show increases, the occupancy percentage usually comes down. For example, 'Audi One' with a seating capacity of 800 and 200 tickets sold has an occupancy of 25%, and 'Audi Two' a with seating capacity of 200 and 140 tickets sold has an occupancy of 70%. On the surface, if we go by the occupancy%, 'Audi Two' appears to have sold more number of tickets, but it is 'Audi One' which has more tickets sold but shows lesser occupancy% because of its larger denominator. So, the average seats per show has an influence on the occupancy%. And, as the seats in all cinema halls of all places are not same/constant, places/cities with higher average seats per hall/auditorium will show less occupancy compared to places/cities with lower average seats per hall/auditorium.
But, as the theaters/cinemas are mostly going to be the same for all the movies, we can compare these figures to the figures of the previous films to interpret and arrive at a conclusion.
