DD National TRP Rating This Week During Ramayan
The Govt. run Hindi TV channel, DD National, which struggled to even feature in the top-10 ratings list for the past many months, has raced past all the other Indian TV channels to emerge as the no.1 TV channel in India between 28th March to 17th April, as it witnessed a tremendous increase in its TRP rating. DD National recorded an amazing 1596923K viewership impressions from Saturday, March 28th to Friday, April 3rd 2020. DD Channel has comfortably beaten channels like Sun TV (Tamil channel) and Dangal (Hindi channel), which consistently feature in the top positions week after week.
The main reason for the sudden surge in DD National's viewership is the re-telecast of its old TV serials, programs and shows like Ramayan and Shaktimaan; and also the nation-wide lock-down due to COVID-19 pandemic which has confined Indians inside their homes. This is a huge boost to the channel which has consistently struggled to gain TRPs in the recent times, and the only time the channel used to rank in the Top-10 was during the live cricket matches involving the Indian cricket team. The TRP (impressions) of DD National has continuously increased for the third straight week since the beginning of 'Ramayan' re-telecast along with the re-telecast of other old TV programs.
Among the re-telecasts, 'Ramayan' particularly gained excellent TRPs, which is the highest for any TV serial since 2015, according to the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC). 'Shaktimaan' also garnered good viewership which has helped DD National to emerge as the top TV channel of the week. 'Ramayan' re-run started from 28th March and 'Shaktimaan' re-run started from 1st April.

Along with DD National, DD Bharati has also gained a lot of TRPs this week due to the re-telecasts of old TV programs like 'Mahabharat'. DD Bharati is placed in the 7th spot with 295317K impressions this week.
