Barbarika Movie Review
Introduction:
Barbarika is one of the new Kannada movies that releasd this week at the Sandalwood box office. Barbarika is a crime thriller, as claimed on the movie's BMS page. The movie features actors Skanda Ashok and Sirri Raju in the lead roles. The title of the film is named after a mythological character known as 'Barbarika', who was the grandson of Bhima in Mahabharata. While the title is inspired by one of the characters of the ancient Indian epic 'Mahabharata', the film itself has little to do with Mahabharata or Barbarika, at least what I thought after watching the film. What the movie is about, and how good the movie is? Read our review to find out!
Barbarika Movie Review: Non-Spoiler Review
Barbarika Review - Plot:
Barbarika has a typical formulaic-commercial movie plot and has elements of multiple genres that are blended. There isn't anything that is particularly new or anything that really stands apart from other such movies that we have watched multiple times before. The storytelling is quite decent, and it just about keeps you attentive if you are quite open-minded about the movie. When we booked tickets using BookMyShow, the movie claimed itself to be a crime-thriller. Well, there was enough crime in the movie and quite a bit of thrill as well. The crux of 'Barbarika' is how economic hardships of young men drive them towards crime and to ultimately become hardened criminals.
Barbarika Review: Cast and Performances:
The lead pair of the film, Skanda Ashok and Sirri Raju, have performed quite well. The rest of the cast, which includes seasoned actors such as B. M. Venkatesh (Jhende) and Bala Rajwadi, has also given a good-to-decent performance. But nice acting performances alone don't translate into a good film.
Barbarika Review: Production:
Considering the face-value and the intended market of the film, the production values of Barbarika are pretty decent. It is apparent when you watch Barbarika that the film has a limited budget to work on, and some of the aspects of the filmmaking make it pretty evident. Even with its 'budget-film' feel, Barbarika makes honest attempts at making the movie look good and rich.
Barbarika Review: Music:
Musician AT Ravish has lent music to Barbarika, and it is as good as the film.
Barbarika Review: What to Expect?
Expect a typical budget commercial film with action, songs and dance that tries to touch some of the social issues like health, education and poverty.
Barbarika Review: Conclusion:
With a runtime of about 2 hours, Barbarika can be watched once if you have nothing better to do.
