Klaantha Movie Review

Introduction:

Klaantha is one of the smaller films to release this week in Karnataka. The lead actor of the film, M Vignesh, is a relatively new face, but the lead actress, Sangeetha Bhat, has been in the Kannada film industry for more than a decade now, and has acted in lead roles in a good number of movies. Some of the other cast members are well-known faces, while others are largely unknown to the average moviegoers. So, there isn't much face-value to the film, and the film has to depend on its story and audience word-of-mouth to pull the crowd to the theatres. Klaantha's trailer, which was released about a week before the release, looked pretty average to be honest. But, how does the movie actually fare? Is it entertaining and worth paying for the tickets to watch in the theatres? Read our review to find out!

Klaantha Movie Review: Non-Spoiler Review

Klaantha Review - Plot:

Klaatha's plot is more of situational than actually a full-fledged story. But, I am not complaining, situational plots can be very intense and engaging as we seen in the past with many movies, like the Kannada film '6-5=2' which had unknown actors but was pretty engaging even with its low-budget feel. Klaantha is also set in the jungles, but isnt nearly as engaging as the other situational Kannada thrillers. The basic premise of Klaantha is quite simplistic; a couple leaves for a vacation in a remote forest, but they are stalked by a criminal gang and become trapped in the jungle. How do they escape or will they escape from the jungle? The question forms the bulk of the storyline.

Situational survival thrillers can be very tricky to properly execute. If done correctly, the movie can keep the audience hooked to the screen, if not, then the audience can easliy give-up on the film. Klaantha's screenplay had to be taut, but the movie derails itself multiple times and simply meanders with no progression to the storyline at hand. The movie had to stay focused, but tries to incorporate many elements which were simply not needed.

Klaantha Review: Cast and Performances:

M Vignesh, son of Kannada actress Sangeetha Anil, is the lead actor of the film and has performed satisfactorily enough not to completely dismiss him. He is quite good in the action sequences. Sangeetha Bhat, the lead actress, the scream queen of this film, has provided some staple acting stuff typical for movies of this genre. The other cast members have done a decent job with their respective roles.

Klaantha Review: Production:

The production value of Klaantha is bare-basic. However, the movie does a good job at making efficient use of the limited budget, as certain aspects of filmmaking do feel very professional and never feel cheaped out. The camera work by cinematographer Mohan Lokanathan is quite good, and does most of the heavy lifting trying to elevate the feel of the film.

Klaantha Review: Music:

Chandrakanth S P is the music director of the film, and has done a satisfactory job.

Klaantha Review: What to Expect?

Expect a not so gripping jungle action thriller, which takes a longer route to come to the point.

Klaantha Review: Conclusion:

Even with a shorter runtime of just 1 hour 45 minutes, Klaantha feels quite strectched-out, but it does offer some entertainment and compelling moments. Can be watched once this weekend if you have nothing better to do.
